Day 14: Leaving the UK

June 2, 2025

Five months today since we saw David for the last time. The irony of this being leaving day isn’t lost on me today. I didn’t mention the date to the kids. We were all there..at the end. No need to recall that today. I do enough recalling for all of us.

We didn’t have to be at the airport until around 12 Noon, so we stayed at the hotel until we checked out. Adam drove us to Heathrow and we hung out for a little bit before we had to make our way through security. It is always sad when Adam leaves to go back home, and it was just as sad leaving him behind in England. I appreciate his driving us around and catering to whatever we needed and putting up with my crazy, hormonal grieving self more than he can know. We made our way to security and had our bags pulled out for examination. I had a deck of cards they had to check and SL had a necklace they wanted to look at but nothing major so we were on our way pretty quickly. The Delta app had not updated the gate location, so we found a place to sit with all the other people waiting for their gates. Apparently, unlike Hartsfield, Heathrow doesn’t let you back to the gate until closer to time to board. The terminal was filled with people and shops of all kinds. We split a sandwich from Pret a Manger and soon got the gate number and was ready to board. We got settled into our seats and took off at 3:15 pm. The flight was around 9 hours and felt even longer. I watched three movies and SL slept some of the way. we landed in Atlanta around 7:15 pm and it took forever to go through customs. Someone said they stopped using the MCP app so everyone had to wait. We grabbed our luggage and headed south. Good to be home, but we are already missing Adam and the new family and friends we met.
